At the Media Year Congress in the Media Park (MJC) in Hilversum, Appiness has been named the winner of the Pitch Contest. Jonas de Cooman, CEO of the Belgian startup, received over 38% of the votes of the attendants. Appiness won an award and a cheque for a half year office space at the Media Park and further guidance from the MediaMatters accelerator program.
Six international startups from the MediaMatters program presented their solution during the Pitch Contest. They were selected during the MatchMaking Days in May, involving a total of fourteen startups from seven countries. The six startups were: Appiness (Belgium), AX Semantics (Germany), Deep.BI (Poland), EzyInsights (Finland), inBeacon (the Netherlands) en Tinkerlist (Belgium).
Spott
Winner Appiness has developed the "Spott" mobile app. This allows TV viewers to get information about products and objects that appear on screen during a TV show. That can be a recipe, but also the model and price of the presenter's shirt.
CEO Jonas de Cooman was very pleased with the award. "I especially look forward to cooperate with MediaMatters in finding new customers for our product. The Netherlands is a very important market for us."
The MediaMatters program offers media companies a unique platform to meet international startups and scale-ups with innovative media solutions. MediaMatters connects challenges of media companies to startup and scale-up propositions to work together on new products and services, or to improve the existing business of media companies.
MatchMaking
During the Matchmaking Days in May, fourteen startups and scale-ups presented their propositions to six media companies. 27 matches were made between companies and startups.
The pitch contest at the Media Year Congress was the end of Round 1 of the MediaMatters program. On July 1st, Round 2 starts and a new registration for startups will open. In September, 15 to 20 startups will be selected that get the opportunity to present themselves to the affiliated media companies in October.
Bert Kok, Business Manager at MediaMatters: "The Pitch Contest at the MJC was a unique opportunity for our startups to present their innovative solutions before a big audience of media professionals. We hope, of course, that this will generate a lot of business for them in the Netherlands."
