The 2020 Dutch Eurovision Song Contest Innovation Challenge
(challenge closed)
The Dutch public broadcasting organization NPO with AVROTROS, NOS and European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are looking for innovative solutions that will enhance the experience for viewers and fans during the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC2020).
We are looking for solutions in the following areas:
1. Online viewer and fan engagement
Do you have a solution that enhances the online experience of viewers and fans of the Dutch Eurovision Song Contest? (for instance: data-visualization, applied video-indexation solutions, voice applications)
2. Online production
Do you have a solution that supports or enhances the production of online content before and during the Eurovision Song Contest? (for instance: editorial tools, social media tools)
All solutions must be submitted before Monday August 19, 2019. Please include a relevant use case of how your technology, product or service can have added value for the Eurovision Song Contest.
We will make a selection of promising solutions before September 1. If selected, we will ask you to submit more detailed information about your solution. At that stage we would also like to know what information you need from us in order to make a detailed proposal.
From the selected solutions, we will invite 10 companies for a final event on Monday September 30, 2019 in Amsterdam. You will get a chance to present your solution and talk to experts from the parties involved with the organisation of ESC2020. A maximum of 3 finalists will be selected to implement their solution for the Eurovision Song Contest. We can offer each of those companies co-funding for development up to € 35.000. And of course, being associated with the Eurovision Song Contest gives you a worldwide exposure.
This is the timeline for the Challenge:
NPO and AVROTROS will share the following resources in order to develop and test your solution:
- (Test) User data (if/when available) from the Eurovision Song Contest app of AVROTROS
- Sound and video material produced during the semi-finals and the final event
- Indexed archive video of the Eurovision Song Contest
The primary production process - everything that happens on stage and the broadcasting of the semi-finals and final - are explicitly excluded from this Challenge. We are also not looking for consumer-oriented apps.
Submitted solutions must be business to business (white label) and can’t be presented under your own brand or label to the end user (or viewer and listener).
We are welcoming all innovative solutions, but particularly looking for companies that have proven technology and an established client base. We are looking for new applications of existing technology. We also welcome joint proposals for solutions.
